On the edge of the circle

I'm sitting on the edge of the circle
one foot ready to run

the music is light
the light is bright
I don't think they're so clever

the circle tightens
my cramp worsens
the messiah touches a teenager

there's murmuring
I stand and point
the messiah leaves with someone's wife

Almost Blue

The sky was almost blue
when she drove
onto Mountain Road and
left dust in the trees

what she loved
now she hated
and she said so

it was obvious
she was running
the day she landed

crimson in her eyes
black bangles; hair
changing in the wind

she could see the lights
from the verandah
life in the universe

and me in my cords
wondering what
to do next
